Artist Leigh Wen
Elementos, Recent Work
A special reception with the artist: July 5th, 6 to 8 p.m.
Ms. Leigh Wen will exhibit her paintings, intaglio prints, and
engravings in The Gallery at The Clown in her upcoming exhibition,
"Elementos, Recent Work". Ms. Wen explores the four ancient elements
of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air in a group of large scale paintings
and fine intaglio prints. By scratching away from a wet layer of
dark paint with a stylus, Ms. Wen creates an intricate weave of
lines, which poetically express the nature of the four elements
and suggest an even greater universality. In her own words,
" These lines flow across the canvas in rhythms and frequencies
that create depths and swells on the painted surface. Something
of the self is lost in the resulting tangle, then regained, only
to be lost again. Simplicity and harmony exist within the chaos
of the world. "
A highly accomplished artist, Leigh Wen shows frequently in both
her native Taiwan and in The United States, including the Taipei
Fine Arts Museum and the Arnot Art Museum in Elmirea, N.Y. Her work
is also on display at the U.S. Embassy at Amman, Jordan. Ms. Wen
is the receipant of a 1999 artists grant from the Pollock-Krasner
Foundation and more recently was honored this June in New York City,
with a Helena Rubinstein Fellowship.
Please join the gallery at The Clown in celebrating this gifted
and wonderfull artist, at a reception for the artist on July 5th,
from six to eight, and be sure to come and view these extraordinary
paintings.
