Showing in August at The Clown

August 2— August 29

Mary Pat Wager, “Sculpture”
Free Standing Sculpture and Wall Reliefs

Opening Reception
Thursday, August 2, 6-8p.m.
and a Wine Tasting in our cellar from 5-8p.m. at The Gallery at the Clown

The Gallery at The Clown welcomes, Wells summer resident, Mary Pat Wager. In a process she likens to drawing, Mary Pat Wager constructs her striking, steel wall sculptures. The artist is highly invested in the process of being before the material, working it, and responding to the result of her last action. This yields a responsiveness akin to drawing, only with the added richness of the three dimensional world supporting her.

"....The utilitarian process of life leaves a visual residue....."

The artist combines the high polish state of finely worked steel with the raw organic forms which steel can take after cooling from it‚s liquid state. The spare nature of the surrounding, highly finished metal, has the effect of lavishing attention on the natural vicissitudes of the raw material. The finished steel is regular, measured, and adherent to a human order. The organic masses of unworked metal float above this format and simultaneously resist it's formulation while complimenting it. In her own words,

"In working within the medium of steel and in witnessing the expressiveness of the forms, I have been able to experience the duality of the free interplay of images and thoughtful control."

Mary Pat Wager has exhibited widely in the northeast in many solo and group exhibitions. Her work hangs in the headquarters of many major corporations including General Electric, McDonald's, and the Phoenix Life Insurance Company.

The artist will be here for an opening reception, August 2 from 6 to 8 to talk about this exciting work. "Sculpture", by Mary Pat Wager will be showing August 2 through August 29 at the Gallery at The Clown, 123 Middle Street, Portland, ME.
