LEIGH LI-YUN WENLeigh Li-Yun Wen was born outside of Taipei, Taiwan. She received her B.F.A. from Washington State University in 1984, an M.A. in Fine Arts in 1985 and an M.F.A. in 1994 both from SUNY at Albany. She has exhibited her work internationally and nationally since the early eighties, and has won many awards throughout her career. Most recently she was honored with both The Helena Rubinstein and the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships. Her work has been described as "endlessly fascinating", "a stirring at the core that is authentic and rejuvenating". As one of subtraction from darkness to light, her process demands the undivided attention of both artist and viewer. After allowing a base coat of paint to dry she attacks her canvas with more layers of color and a stylus in order to create her final breath taking images. Her use of line and texture call on the most basic instincts of the viewer and take them on an emotional ride that is both overpowering and entirely familiar. Leigh continues to work in her studio and has her paintings, prints and pots in public and private collections around the world.
