In addition to our group show in the main gallery The Clown will highlight when of our celebrated Maine Artists, John Knight, recent recipient of the 2007 Maine Arts Commission Visual Arts Fellowship. John Knight earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Indiana University in 1994 and a Master's degree in the same field from American University in 1998. since moving to Maine he has been focused on a series of large paintings exploring common plants in invented landscapes. The space in his paintings reflect environments Knight has lived in during his life: Indiana, New Mexico, Maine, to name a few. These paintings bring the viewer into an intense visual world that captures the sun, warmth and atmosphere of the environment John Knight painted, while bringing an incredible spiritual component that is reminiscent of Marsden Hartley's landscapes.
