Week of November 5 – 12, 2005
Saturday 11/5
Arrival at the Florence Airport
Welcome to Castellina in Chianti
Light Lunch at the Bar next to Il Fondaccio where we have dinner that night.
5:00 p.m. Informal tasting of local wines
7:30 p.m. Dinner at Il Fondaccio (0577-741084) – an authentic pizzeria in Castellina in Chianti
Sunday 11/6
8:00a.m. Continental breakfast - eggs, cereal, juice, milk coffee
9:30 a.m. Depart for Panzano; See the Church with the modern interpretation of the Annunciation over the door; Walk down the hill to see Leather Shop where they hand make and design shoes, bags and clothes in leather; many beautiful items in Ostrich leather. Visit local butcher shops with famous Butcher who puts out food for customers; walk to center where there is an open market and have lunch.
12:00 p.m. Lunch in Panzano at Enoteca Baldi (055 852678)
1:00 p.m. Depart for Florence
2:00 – 5:00 Reservations to see the Academia to see David , followed by a walk to the to the Duomo with a visit inside, then on to the Ponte Vecchio.
5:00 – 7:00 Walk across the bridge to see Santo Spirito and have a drink. Walk back across the river through Antique Shop section to dinner.
7:30 p.m. Dinner in Florence IL LATINI 7:30, 055 289 794 Via

Monday 11/7
8:00 a.m. Continental breakfast
9:00 a.m. Depart for Lucca
10:00 – 12:00: p.m Walk to San Michele, down the main shopping street, then over to the cathedral and back to the Amphitheatre Square for lunch.
1:00: Lunch OSTERIA BARALLA....www.osteriabaralla.it.......not fancy but
nice and right next to the little round piazza
2:00 – 5:00 Susan and Gedy walk the perimeter wall while the rest of the gang walked around the Amphitheatre Square before meeting at San Michele to see the paintings inside. Walked to the Cathedral to see that building before heading home. We stopped along the way to the van to buy vegetables, etc., for dinner
8:00 Light Dinner at Tramonti
Tuesday 11/8
8:00 a.m. Continental breakfast
9:00 a.m. Depart for Siena
10:00 –12:30 p.m. Start at The Duomo (Santa Maria Assunta)
1:00 p.m. Lunch in Siena on the Piazza del Campo
2:00 p.m. Went into Palazzo Pubblico with the frescos of Good & Bad government by Ambrogio Lorenzetti.. Walk back to the van with shopping along the way.
4:30 p.m. Depart for San Gimignano
5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Walk around San Gimignano with shopping and viewing of the Annunciation outside the Capel of Santa Fina
7:30 p.m. Dinner at Bel Soggiorno (0577 940.375) in San Gimignano
Wednesday 11/9
8:00 a.m. Continental breakfast
9:30 a.m. Depart for Florence
10:30 – 1:00 Martin, Barbara and Gedy go to the Boboli Gardens then meet the rest of the group at Santa Croce for lunch. The rest of the group wanders of the Ponte Vecchio and walks along the river to Santa Croce with a little free time there before lunch.
1:00 p.m. Lunch at Bocodama (055-243640), in Piazza Santa Croce, an authentic Florentine trattoria
3:30 –5:30 Santa Croce – Michaelangelo, then over the San Lorenzo’s Chapel.
5:30 p.m. Coffee and pastry at Gigli on the Piazza Repulbica, where we saw the Merry-Go-Round
7:30 p.m. Dinner at Tre Porte (0577 741163), a local trattoria in the village of Castellina in Chianti
Thursday 11/10
8:00 a.m. Continental breakfast
9:30 a.m. Depart for Montelupo (we should have headed for Montelupo Fiorentino, but instead we found Casina Di Cornia with a ceramic workshop with ceramicist, Francine Dufour, a Swiss woman who has been living there for 25 years.
11:00 – 1:00 Drive to Greve thru Panzano.
1:30 p.m. Lunch in Greve at Giovanni da Verrazzano Hotel and Restaurant
3:00 p.m. Visit Greve to see the Madonne Del Chianti exhibit in Museo d’Arte Sacra di San Francesco
4:00 p.m. Drive back home
7:00 p.m. Dinner at Il Picollo Castello (0577 304370) in Montereggioni, with time for short walk around this small village before dinner.
Friday 11/11
8:00 a.m. Continental breakfast
9:00 a.m. Depart for Monte Oliveto to see the life story of St. Benedict in Frescoes.
1:00 p.m. Light lunch in Pienza at Bucca della Fate
2:00 p.m. Walk around Pienza with a visit to very old church under restoration and larger cathedral and Palace of the Piccolomini’s.
4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Wine Tasting at the 1888 bar and Enoteco on the main square in Montalcino
8:30 p.m. Farewell Dinner at Il Mulino with large fireplace and many courses of food!
